Extron FOX3 T 311 PC SM (part number 70-1223-12) — singlemode PowerCage fiber optic transmitter for HDMI, USB HID, stereo audio and RS-232 control.
This is the card version of Extron's FOX3 transmitter, built to sit inside a PowerCage 411 enclosure (Extron part 60-1492-02) rather than in a chassis of its own. It digitizes an HDMI 2.0 source along with unbalanced stereo audio and serial data, then launches all of it onto 1310 nm singlemode fiber through LC connectors. Extron catalogues this particular part as the lossless singlemode build: a mathematically lossless 4096x2160/60 image at 4:4:4 travels over one fiber, and the matching LinkLicense (70-1098-12) unlocks fully uncompressed transport across two fibers. Modules are hot-swappable, so a card can be exchanged without taking the rack offline.
Key Capabilities
- HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.3, data rates to 18.0 Gbps and a 594 MHz maximum pixel clock.
- Singlemode optical reach of 20 km (12.4 miles) at 1310 nm over LC-terminated fiber.
- USB HID host port with device class filtering, plus one built-in USB hub, for secure KVM work.
- Audio de-embedded from HDMI, or a 3.5 mm unbalanced analog stereo input, sampled at 48 kHz.
- RS-232 pass-through from 9600 to 115,200 baud on a 3-pole captive screw connector.
- Key Minder and EDID Minder hold HDCP keys and EDID negotiated across the link.
Where It Is Used
Fiber transport gets specified where copper cannot reach or cannot be trusted, so this module turns up in campus and airport backbones, hospital imaging and operating-room feeds, broadcast plants, courtrooms, and secure government or military control rooms. The PowerCage form factor suits racks where four transmitters have to share a single rack unit.
