Extron FOX I/O 1616 SM (part number 70-771-22) — a 16x16 singlemode fiber optic input/output board for Extron FOX Matrix modular switchers.
Fitted into one slot of a FOX Matrix 320x or FOX Matrix 14400 chassis, this board brings sixteen fiber ports to the frame, each pairing a transmit and a receive link on LC terminations — 16 Tx and 16 Rx, 32 LC connectors altogether. The 1310 nm transceivers are what set this card apart from the multimode version: they drive singlemode plant out to 30 km (18.75 miles) against a 13 dB optical loss budget, and Extron also rates them for multimode fiber at the same 1310 nm wavelength. That reach is what makes campus-to-campus and inter-building links practical without repeaters.
Key Capabilities
- Sixteen singlemode fiber inputs and sixteen outputs from one single-slot card
- 32 LC connectors per board, individually isolated and buffered
- 1310 nm optics reaching 30 km (18.75 miles) with an Extron singlemode transmitter and receiver
- 13 dB maximum optical loss budget and -18 dBm typical receiver sensitivity
- Channel data rate up to 4.25 Gbps at unity gain, 8 bits per channel across R, G and B
- Hot-swappable, and freely mixable with multimode boards in the same frame
Where It Is Used
Singlemode boards suit distances copper and multimode cannot cover: linked hospital campuses, stadiums and arenas, university estates, refinery and utility sites, airport and military installations, and broadcast plants where a control room and a remote facility must share the same routed video and audio.
