Details
Extron FOX I/O 1616 MM (part number 70-771-21) — a 16x16 multimode fiber optic input/output board for Extron FOX Matrix modular switchers.
This hot-swappable card fills a single slot in a FOX Matrix 320x or FOX Matrix 14400 chassis and adds sixteen multimode fiber ports to the frame. Each port pairs a transmit link with a receive link on LC terminations, so one board contributes 16 Tx and 16 Rx paths — 32 LC connectors in total. A single fiber carries video, audio and one-way data; a second fiber is added only when return communication is needed. Optics run at 850 nm, matching OM1, OM2, OM3 and OM4 plant already installed in most buildings and campuses. Slots accept any mix of card types, so a multimode input can leave the same frame on a singlemode output.
Key Capabilities
- Sixteen multimode fiber inputs and sixteen outputs from one single-slot card
- 32 LC connectors per board, individually isolated and buffered
- 850 nm optics reaching 2 km (6561 ft) over laser-optimized OM3/OM4 cable
- Channel data rate up to 4.25 Gbps at unity gain, 8 bits per channel across R, G and B
- Hot-swappable: cards can be added or exchanged without powering the matrix down
- Class 1 laser device built to IEC-60825 and FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 / 1040.11
Where It Is Used
FOX fiber matrices carrying these cards route uncompressed AV through hospitals and medical imaging suites, university campuses, simulation and training centers, broadcast facilities, air traffic and military command rooms, and utility control centers — wherever signals must run farther than copper allows while staying electrically isolated and immune to interference.
