Six feet turns the adapter into a complete connection. Instead of a block on the source port plus a separate HDMI lead, this is one assembly: a latching DisplayPort plug at the computer, six feet of shielded 28 AWG cable, and a female HDMI type A receptacle at the far end that a room's existing HDMI cable plugs straight into. Active circuitry converts the packetized DisplayPort stream to TMDS at up to 18 Gbps with a 600 MHz pixel clock, and the whole thing runs on 507 mW taken from the source — no supply, no batteries, nothing to lose.
