A rigid adapter hanging off a laptop port is a broken connector waiting to happen. This version puts six inches of 28 AWG cable between the DisplayPort plug and the HDMI receptacle, so the weight of the mating HDMI cable pulls on the pigtail instead of the source's port. The conversion is still active — packetized DisplayPort out, TMDS HDMI in — at up to 18 Gbps with a 600 MHz pixel clock, and it draws its 507 mW from the DisplayPort source. EDID, HDCP and audio pass straight through.
