Fifty feet takes a USB peripheral out of the room the host lives in. Because the SuperSpeed lanes run on glass multimode fibre, the 5 Gbps rate survives the distance, and the copper conductors bundled alongside keep USB 2.0 traffic and the 5 V supply intact. There is no transmitter, no receiver and no power brick to find space for. The CMP-rated jacket means the cable can go the direct way through a plenum ceiling rather than following a conduit path around the building.
