Return-air plenums above suspended ceilings are not always deep enough for a full-size ceiling speaker, and background paging or overflow audio rarely needs full-range output anyway. The SF 3C LP answers both constraints with a 3 in paper-cone driver in a 4.4 in deep composite back can — only 4.0 in from the front of the tile to the top of the enclosure — that still carries a UL 2043 plenum rating and mounts with the same V-rail and C-ring hardware used across the SF ceiling speaker line.
