Where the standard version stops at three feet, the XL housing holds enough of the assembly for a 5 foot (152 cm) pull. The conversion sits inside the cable: male USB-C at the surface, male latching DisplayPort at the equipment end. The latch matters on a long run, because the under-table end of the cable is exactly where an unlatched DisplayPort plug tends to work its way loose. Sources must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
