The XL housing is roughly six inches taller than the standard Retractor and stores enough cable for a 5 foot (152 cm) pull. On a wide table that is the difference between the audio connector reaching a laptop at the far chair and not reaching it at all. One continuous TRS cable runs from the equipment side to the tabletop connector; the mechanism holds the cable at any extension and returns it only when the release button is pressed.
