Details
Extron FOX T USB Extender Plus MM (part number 60-1474-11) — multimode fiber optic transmitter that carries a USB host connection far past the reach of copper.
This is the sending end of a two-piece link. The transmitter takes one USB host connection on a female type B jack and converts it into a 600 Mbps optical stream carried on a pair of LC fibers. Paired with the matching multimode receiver, it lets keyboards, mice, touch panels, cameras and storage devices sit in a room where the computer does not. Because the span between the two units is entirely optical, the link sidesteps the ground-loop and interference headaches that come with long copper USB runs.
Key Capabilities
- 600 Mbps optical data rate on two LC connectors at an 850 nm multimode wavelength
- Multimode reach of 300 m over 62.5 µm OM1, 1 km over 50 µm OM2, and 2 km over OM3/OM4
- Carries USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 traffic at low, full and high speed to 480 Mbps
- Optional built-in hub with peripheral emulation for a stable host-side connection
- Quarter-rack metal enclosure only 1.0" high, convection cooled with no vents or fans
- Draws 3.2 watts at the device, 4.1 watts counting the external power supply
Where It Is Used
Multimode fiber suits in-building distribution, so this transmitter turns up in control rooms, medical imaging suites, broadcast facilities, university lecture halls and simulation labs where the operator console sits well away from the equipment rack. It also serves as the USB path in larger plants built around Extron FOX matrix switchers.
