Copper runs out of reach long before a fiber run does. This pair converts a single link DVI-D signal to light at the source, sends it down four 50/125 micron multimode fibers, and converts it back at the display. Each unit is small enough to hang off the DVI connector itself and is secured with thumbscrews, so there is no chassis to mount. Setup is a one-time affair: a recessed EDID Minder button on the transmitter captures the display's EDID to an on-board EEPROM, after which the source boots to the right resolution every time.
