Silicon Valley innovator CapsoVision gains FDA approval on third generation
CapsoCam Plus Orange County, CA - November 16th 2016 - Silicon Valley innovator CapsoVision has recently won FDA clearance for their new endoscope, the CapsoCam Plus. The CapsoCam Plus is a small bowel endoscope system the size of a pill capsule. Swallowable, the device provides a 360 degree view of the bowels from four cameras capturing still frames as the pill moves its way through the intestines. Once the device is retrieved and the images downloaded, the capsule can be thrown away. The CapsoCam Plus comes as a system consisting of the capsule endoscope, a retrieval kit, a data access system, and software that work in tandem for a smooth examination experience. The CapsoCam Plus is the only endoscope capable of complete 360 degree imaging without the need for receiver equipment. The imaging hardware on the device has improved, providing nearly double the resolution of previous CapsoCam models and double the memory. Another advantage of the device is it does not require any pre-examination preparation. Simply swallow the capsule and let it do the rest. Once the CapsoCam Plus has passed through the body, a provided magnetic wand, CapsoRetrieve, is able to retrieve the device. Then a physician will place the capsule into the CapsoAccess system to download the images taken before accessing and viewing them using CapsoView software.

Other endoscopes like End-Facing cameras are limited in displaying views of the mucosa. The device’s path into the intestine could force the camera into an area where capturing the bowel isn’t possible, such as folds in the mucosa which prevent luminance needed to see the intestinal wall. CapsoCam was made to improve endoscopy procedures and in a recent study, the CapsoCam had a 32% higher diagnostic yield.
