Matcha Tea: A Powerhouse of Antioxidants

Orange County, CA - June 29th, 2018 -  Matcha is a type of green tea that is made from the leaves of a Camellia sinensis plant; the same plant used to make oolong, white, black, and other types of green tea. It is different from brewing regular green tea, where the leaves are infused in water, and then removed. Matcha is made by grinding them into a bright green fine powder and then whisked with hot water. Grinding the leaf into a fine powder keeps the valuable antioxidants and minerals in. The water only extracts a small portion of the tea’s benefits; most of the important benefits remain unused and trapped in the tea leaves.

The unique production and cultivation traditions have been the same for centuries; farmers are even practicing the same unique traditions today. The leaves go through a shading process that’s approximately two to six weeks before harvest time. Harvesting the tea leaves in the shade not only protects them from sunlight, it also protects the changes of the natural balance of sugar, caffeine, and flavanols.

Farmers handpick the greenest, youngest tea leaves because they have the best quality. Once the leaves are gathered, they go through a steaming process that lasts about twenty seconds. This allows the leaves to keep its green color along with the amino acids, and other nutritional components. Tea processors then sort them into containers according to their texture, color, and aroma. The leaves are then graded and then stored in a refrigerated room where it maintains its quality. The final step is to stone-ground it until it appears to have a fine, smooth, powder texture.

Matcha Tea: A Powerhouse of Antioxidants

Matcha tea is an easy and simple way to add powerful health benefits to your diet. Here is a list of reasons to enjoy a cup of Matcha in your daily routine:

  • Contains Catechin and EGCg Antioxidants: Catechins are powerful antioxidants that have cancer-fighting properties. One specific Catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) makes up 60% of the catechins in Matcha Green Tea.

  • Helps Reduce Stress, and Stay Calm:  Over a hundred years ago, drinking matcha green tea was the secret to staying calm and keeping the body relaxed. It is used by Chinese Daoists and Japanese Zen Buddhist monks as a means to relax and meditate while remaining alert. The tea contains the amino acid L-Theanine, it helps the brain produce the alpha waves that contribute to the relaxing effect of the tea.
  • Helps Concentration and Boosts Memory:  The L-Theanine in the tea promotes the production of hormones, such as serotonin and dopamine. The two chemicals improve memory, enhance mood, and promote better concentration
  • Detoxifies the Body: Matcha is a powerful detoxifier that naturally removes heavy metals and chemical toxins.
  • Amazing Taste:  Unlike most teas where you would need sugar, milk, or honey to improve the taste, Matcha is remarkable all by itself.
