AR Smart Glasses Lead the Way in the Fourth Wave of Technology

Orange County, CA - April 10th 2017 -  Evena Medical is leading the way in futuristic healthcare. In an article written by Dr. Alec Bari, chief innovation officer at Evena Medical, he discusses how basic healthcare is evolving due to rapid advancements in technology for the medical field. Dr. Bari notes, “Augmented reality (AR), wearables, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to [majorly] impact healthcare delivery over the next few years [by expansion of data accessibility and the facilitation of interactions] between providers and patients. This fourth impending digital wave, like personal computers, the Internet, and mobile technology before it, will have profound effects on the art and science of medicine.”

Wearables, specifically AR glasses, are one of many ways we can see the impact of this technological revolution. These glasses, developed largely by Evena Medical, enable first responders, emergency physicians, and nurses to fundamentally see “through” a patient’s skin using near-infrared light and cameras. Veins and tissues can be visualized and displayed into the smart glasses, allowing the wearer a fine detailed view in diagnosis and treatment. Alongside AR glasses, surgeons have already implemented the use of fluorescent markers to avoid the injury of internal organs, further preventing complications in surgery.

Google Glass was the first broad scale AR product to enter the medical field. Although short-lived, the project proved helpful to physicians by allowing a seamless doctor-patient relationship. Information was readily available, rather than needing to wait for a follow up days later. Outside the medical field, we are already seeing AR glasses make a move to the forefront in products like Snapchat’s Spectacles. These glasses come with built in cameras and are able to record and post videos instantaneously.

AR Smart Glasses Lead the Way in the Fourth Wave of Technology

The progression of technology to help humanity doesn’t end with AR glasses. Dr. Bari believes that Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Home, among other personal assistant systems, may be next in line to reinforce fitness and health activities, amongst other helpful features. Much like the wearable fitness trackers currently available on the market, these home assistants would reinforce healthier eating habits and provide verbal work out reminders.

Dr. Bari notes the obvious setbacks with any advanced technology: ensuring privacy and data security, along with careful analysis of data that is costly and time consuming. The future possibilities in research and production in this field are boundless since beginning within the last decade. Dr. Bari is optimistic about the direction augmented reality devices will take in future ventures.
