Gordian Surgical introduces the first trocar with a built-in fascia closing feature

Orange County, CA - September 12th 2016 - Around 2.5 million laparoscopic procedures are performed annually in the United States. These surgeries often require up to five ports, a small medical appliance that is installed beneath the skin, each ranging from 5 to 15 millimeters, with larger ports requiring closure of the fascia. To help simplify and improve laparoscopic procedures, Israeli company Gordian Surgical created the TriClose1200. The device, which has already been granted CE and ISO13485 certification, is a 2 in 1 laparoscopy trocar that can open and close the abdominal wall with a built-in suturing system.

While laparoscopic procedures are already less invasive than open surgery, the TriClose1200 simplifies the surgery further. The Gordian trocar provides safe, suture-anchored fascia closure and the advantages of the device don’t stop there. The device can save up to ten minutes per port and only requires minimal training to use. Before TriClose, manual closure of the fascia relied on physician expertise and incorrect closure could result in serious complications such as hernias. This risk is even higher among obese patients. Though closure devices exist in the medical field, not all are compatible with the trocar, consequently adding time and expenses.

However, the TriClose1200 is compatible with all types of trocars and has even been able to close ports once thought to be too laborious due to their technical intricacy. Once the trocar is inserted in the abdomen sutures are woven through the damaged area and tied off once all medical tools have been removed.

Since starting clinical trials the device has been used successfully in over 30 laparoscopic procedures. Moving to the next stage of production, Gordian CEO Zvi Pe’er has said, “Receiving CE Mark certification allows us to move to the next phase and start sales, a critical step in our development. We expect to begin sales during the first half of 2017.”

Another obstacle when performing laparoscopic procedures is the need for vision. A camera must also be inserted into the abdomen for physician vision during the operation. To assist in surgery where this constant monitoring is needed, Ampronix recommends their HYBRIDPIXX 8MP QFHD Medical Display.

HybridPixx facilitates improved, safe, and reliable care without compromise. The 4K resolution provided by the monitor grants a level of visibility previously unknown to physicians. Available in 58 inches, the HybridPixx has a native resolution of 3840x2160p making the monitor unsurpassed in clarity. Weighing only 100 pounds, the lightweight display has the dimensions 1345 x 866.4 x 299.2 mm making it an easy addition to any room. Using the HybridPixx in conjunction with the TriClose1200 could implement a new standard of laparoscopic procedure, ease the work of physicians, and enable optimal results in patient care.
